Federal Agencies Join to Regulate AI

Hello, and welcome to LegalEase. Today, I would like to talk about the five federal agencies that have joined to regulate AI.

About a week ago, the Department of Justice announced that another agency has agreed to help regulate AI. The list now includes the Department of Education, Homeland Security, Department of Labor, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Department of Health and Human Services. These five agencies plan to come together, share information, and do all they can to regulate AI.

At this time, the agencies will, primarily, focus on implementing civil rights laws into AI technology. It is important that employers understand that the federal government is not changing the laws for AI. Instead, AI must comply with current laws. These agencies have joined to ensure that your AI software complies with existing laws. If you are using AI software in your workforce to help identify applicants for employment, establish job criteria, etc., you must ensure that the AI tool complies with current employment laws.
